Crawford County leaders and community members celebrated the completion of a new $1.6 million emergency dispatch center Friday morning.

Since 2022, Van Buren, Alma and Crawford County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers have all been located inside the county justice center, which includes the sheriff's office and detention center.

"This facility is built for an EF5 tornado to bounce off of it, with storm-rated doors, tornado-rated windows and it has a generator backup. So if there's ever a storm or tornado, chances are, this building will continue to operate and not go down," said Crawford County Judge Chris Keith. "In a storm situation like that, it is critical for operations to still be up and be able to communicate to all the services."
