Administrators of the Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System on Tuesday named deputy system director Allison Woods as the system’s acting executive director and decided to post the position of permanent executive director for 10 days.

System executive director Duncan Baird will leave on Friday to begin work as a senior benefits services executive at Walmart, where he will be responsible for administering Wal-Mart’s 401(k) plan. He has been the executive director of the system for three years.

Woods has been Deputy Director of the Retirement System since November 2020 and has worked there for more than 17 years. She was previously Director of Benefits Administration for the system.

The Public Employees Retirement System is the second largest state government retirement system with over $11 billion in assets and over 75,000 active and retired members.

System administrators voted on Tuesday to send a letter to the administrator of the state’s office of personnel management, Kay Barnhill, stating that the position of system director will be vacant from Monday due to a resignation and that the system “intends to advertise and fill this position as soon as possible.”
