Sebastian County takes look at detention center bookings

Sebastian County officials are looking for ways to curb overpopulation at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center.

Officials are reviewing charges for which inmates are booked at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center to find a way to curb overpopulation at the facility.

The planning committee of the Sebastian County Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee reviewed a report detailing the greatest number of booking offenses at the detention center by year during its meeting Tuesday. The report shows that from 2014 to 2016, the most frequent offense was contempt, failure to pay fine, with 1,828 being recorded in 2016. The next most frequent booking offenses for 2016 were for failure to appear, class B misdemeanor (1,108), public intoxication (1,077), Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) commitment hold (526) and driving while intoxicated, first offense (524).
