JASPER — On Feb. 5, the Newton County Quorum Court passed a resolution declaring the county a Purple Heart County joining in a state-wide effort to honor those veterans who have been wounded or killed while in military service to the country.

The declaration will be followed by a special plaque presentation ceremony that will be announced through County Judge Warren Campbell’s office.

The resolution was presented to the JPs Monday night by Bruce Emerson, a turkey farmer from Marion County, who worked toward getting that county to be the first designated Purple Heart County in Arkansas.
