A county judge is looking for another way to fund renovations to the courthouse.

Jackson County voters chose not to pass a .75% sales tax on Nov. 5. That tax would have funded numerous improvements to the Jackson County Courthouse.

“Of course, we’re disappointed. I know it’s hard on people, and I get it,” said County Judge Jeff Phillips.

He said the courthouse is already going through renovations.

“The new storm windows on the inside, should help us a lot, so we won’t be losing as much heat. So that’s encouraging,” he said. “Everything outside has been done with a grant.”

Phillips still plans to find funds to make improvements.

“I’m really concerned about our handicap, and I really want to what money we can use to try to get that and maybe the bathrooms,” he said. “They’re handicapped accessible now, but I would like for them to be better handicap accessible.”

The judge said it would all start at the quorum court meeting.

“That’s when we usually talk about, you know, or good anything comments or any good for the county we got to,” he said.
