Greene County has received a $20,000 grant for a Drop Pipe Pilot Program, a grant that is unique for the county.

The Unpaved Roads grant came from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission.

Dave Tierney, Greene County road superintendent, said the purpose of the project is to secure better roads and cleaner streams.

“When we have an erosion problem, the sediment is washed into the ditches and ultimately ends up in the rivers,” said Tierney.

The project is geared towards mitigating erosion on gravel roadways and minimizing sediment in rivers that come from irrigation water from farm fields. READ MORE.
