New Madison County jail construction is ahead of schedule

Construction for the new Madison County jail is underway and ahead of schedule.

The county judge said there has not been a fully operational county jail there in 15 years. Right now, the jail is only used as a 24-hour holding facility. They transport their inmates across the state.

Construction for the new Madison County jail is underway and ahead of schedule.

The county judge said there has not been a fully operational county jail there in 15 years. Right now, the jail is only used as a 24-hour holding facility. They transport their inmates across the state.

Judge Larry Garrett said they transport prisoners as far away as Lafayette County in SW Arkansas.

With a $16 million price tag, this is one of the largest projects the county has taken on.
